We're absolutely thrilled to announce that Girls Rock Glasgow secured some micro-grant funding for our summer rock school at the inaugural Creative Glasgow SOUP event!
The event, based on the brilliant Detroit SOUP model, saw creative folk pitch their projects over a bowl of soup – or, in our case, a delicious daal from Parveen’s Canteen. The project with the most votes took home the night's fundraising. So, over a scrumptious meal, the room listened to a fantastic array of pitches from diverse creative projects:
Glasgow-based visual artist Zaim presented "New East", a multi-disciplinary exhibition exploring his experiences as a South Asian Pakistani growing up in Scotland.
Anne Yeomans - a talented screenwriter and singer-songwriter, pitched a one-woman musical celebrating the power of women's voices, complete with fun musical covers and her character, "Echo".
Established composer/musical maestro Karen McIver aimed to fund a new Christmas hit, based on the origins of Rudolph after discovering the character's first appearance in a Macy's department store Christmas book.
Filmmaker/actress Glenna Morrison shared her vision for an audio-visual experience telling the story of Wick's early settlers, drawing on local folk songs and working with local talent.
Playwright Jennifer Kennedy pitched her play, "Rank Outsider", which tells the story of her close friend, who was interrogated and discharged from the Navy for being gay in 1992.
Antje Bothin presented a "postcard project" to raise awareness of Selective Mutism, a condition she was diagnosed with in childhood, and to challenge perceptions surrounding it.
Finally… our very own Lorn and Fi put forward a compelling case for funding crucial costs for the Girls Rock Glasgow Summer School, and we were absolutely delighted (and frankly, a bit surprised!) to win amongst such an incredible line-up.
We were utterly blown away by the passion, creativity, and talent in the room and would wholeheartedly recommend pitching or attending for anyone looking for a brilliant and engaging evening.

Thanks again to everyone!
(We’re still a bit gutted we couldn’t keep that giant cheque...)
