Girls Rock Glasgow
We run a 9-day long summer-school where girls come and learn instruments, form a band, make art, make merchandise, meet new pals, gain confidence and play a gig!
We also host showcase gigs in Bar Bloc+ every second month where you can hear some of the bands formed on our projects, alongside other women in the music scene.
We are made up of:
Our core team who work year round to ensure rock school runs smoothly during the summer
A group of talented volunteers who help run and organise our workshops and help out at events.
Girls Rock Glasgow rock school takes place in July 2024 in Kinning Park Complex and
We hosted the first Glasgow summer school in 2015 based on the camps that have been running in America since 2001 (http://www.girlsrockcamp.org)
Application for girls aged 8-16 years to come and participate in rock school will be open Spring 2024.

“I just wanted to say thank you all for such a brilliant week. You have supported and cared for Iris and created an atmosphere where she felt she could speak up and express herself, and I've seen a big increase in her confidence over the week. On Thursday she told me she didn't want it to end. She talked about how wonderful all the volunteers were. She didn't once say that she didn't want to go, despite 9 days on the trot, every day she got up, happy that it was another day at rock school! Thank you for putting so much into this amazing experience for our girls.”
“G had a fantastic time at Girls Rock Glasgow and we all enjoyed watching Hot Sauce (participant band) perform “Space Cabbage” at the Kelvingrove Bandstand. The entire show was wonderful. Thanks to everyone involved with Girls Rock. G now wants an electric guitar, having been so inspired by her involvement in music school. I believe her fellow band members are keen to meet up again and practice music together. Girls Rock really is an amazing thing. Thanks again.”
“I would like to thank you for running such an incredible week for young girls, bringing them all together the way you have. As the mother of an introvert who can outwardly display a sullen disinterest - which we're currently discovering hides a paralysing anxiety about her ability to do most things every single day - I assure you, you are achieving great things. I'm sure she's not alone. She's not aware of it yet, but she's being referred for counselling and really does struggle: the first few days came home unable to talk about it or share her days' experiences whatsoever. After the day you did the Mindfulness session I noticed a change in her and she's now looking forward to rather than fearing coming along, and opening up a little about her day. All normal behaviour to most parents, but trust me, here it's very unusual and I could kick my heels in the air. From the bottom of a relieved mum's heart, I thank you, and can't wait to see everyone have fun sharing what they've learned tomorrow. Thanks again and keep up the great work for the next lucky bunch to come along.”
